Hackney social services accused of failing murdered children, and a cover up
Last year Antoine and Kenniece Ogunkoya, were murdered by their
schizophrenic mother, after Hackney Social Services sanctioned
unsupervised overnight visits against their fathers wishes.
Now, as the Hackney Safeguarding Children's Board is due to publish
its summary of the report into their deaths, the Council stands
accused by their grieving father, Jimi Ogunkoya of trying to cover up
the report. Mr Ogunkoya said: "My children's death is not the first in
these circumstances, and sadly it won't be the last"
He accuses the council of failing his children.
Hackney Council said a "decision had not yet been made whether the
full report would be released to the family"
This is an ill judged and unacceptable position for any council to
take, particularly one with Hackney's history of child protection. Any
parent has the right to know why their children have been murdered.
Lord Laming, who led the inquiry into the death of Victoria Climbie in
2000, expressed his concerns that 4 years after the 'Every Child
Matters' legislation which was supposed to prevent any more of these
