Women Raping Children Not So Interesting To The Times Union

Since the last time I mentioned a woman raping a boy there have been

two more reports in the Times Union of women charged with raping boys

locally. Each has been mentioned in a short article buried in the

local section.

Does anyone else find it interesting that men charged with raping or

abusing a child are often prominently covered, usually with a mug

shot, yet when a woman rapes a child it's relegated nearly to the back

page, no photo?

Not that that would indicate a double-standard or anything...naw!

Two charged with raping teens

This story on Oct 12, 2007 is accompanied by mug shots of the two men,

story located middlish in the local section.

Apparently a story too sensationalistic to resist was enough to put a

new case (my, aren't there a lot?) of a grown woman raping a boy on

the front page of the Times Union. Hard not to when the radio and TV

are both making the case of a female psychologist raping a boy their

lead story. Link to come...link This front page story did include a

photo of the rapist.

Update 11-13 - unlike the update on the Shen case which was the lead

story on page 1 recently (even though nothing is really happening with

it right now), we find, on the front of the local section today that

new rape charges have been filed against this female pschologist for

raping a boy. No photo accompanied the story as was the case with the

Shen story and most male child rapist stories

I guess I'm going to just keep updating this post with coverage of

rapes...

Straightforward story about the sentencing of some scumbag that

admitted to raping a girl more than 50 times while she was 13 to 15

years old. Located middle of local section.

Follow up piece today on the gay male Columbia High teacher that raped

a student buried in the local section, accompanied by a very

unflattering picture, just before the obituaries.

trial for the Shen teacher (male) accused of abusing children - w/ mug

shot.

Shen guy with a mug shot - trial is starting.

wow! Nov 27 nearly HALF the full front page taken up by the Shen guy!

Nov. 29 - buried in the local section just prior to the obituaries - a

very brief blurb on a (Ballston Spa?) woman raping a teen boy.

Dec 6 - update on Shen molester placed just before the obits in local

section (aka, the spot usually reserved for female rapists)

Dec 19 - regular length article, located (shockingly!) buried opposite

the obits, as usual, about the woman that raped a 17 year old mentally

disabled kid with the intelligence of a 3 year old. No picture of the

rapist provided, as usual.

Jan 3, 2008 - blurb-length article on a local man arrested for raping

a very young child. location: opposite obituaries. Unlike stories

about women rapists this was about a man and, therefore, of course

contained a photo.

Jan 4 - long blurb-length re: Coeyman's man raping a teenager - no

photo
